Inspired by the Teen Titans episode "The Apprentice, Part 2". In the episode Slade forces Robin to work for him as his apprentice by threatening to kill his friends. At one point Slade mentions that in time Robin might even learn to look at him as a father figure. To which Robin replies: "I already have a father". Cue dramatic music and bats flying out into the night.

There is also a scene where Robin has to steal from Wayne Enterprises, which is of course the company owned by Bruce Wayne, aka Batman. I read an interview with the makers once where they pointed out that Slade is essentially forcing Robin to not only betray his friends but also his mentor, Batman. Robin is torn between loyalty to the man he looks up to and the villain who has the power to destroy his friends with the push of a button.

I wanted to portray the differences between what Batman and Slade have to offer. Batman's hand is stretched out in a helpful gesture, as if to lead Robin back to the right path, whereas Slade's hand is clutching a little device of death, finger hovering over the trigger.
