New journal skin (hopefully?)

Journal Entry: Wed Nov 11, 2009, 12:21 PM
  • Mood: dA Love
  • Listening to: "Hit the Heartbrakes" - The Black Kids
  • Reading: "The Annotated Alice" - Lewis Carroll
  • Watching: Dexter
I've got nothing much of importance to update about, but it's a good excuse to test if my new temporary journal skin shows up okay. It's the first time I've ever installed a journal skin on DA, so I hope I'm not royally screwing anything up.

If it does work, my journal should now have a lovely vintage papery look and there should be a photo of a gorgeous, curly-haired Victorian man just above my post. Roll over him with your mouse and - magic! It should change into the same gorgeous man from a different angle (and wearing different clothes). He's currently posing as my desktop background as well. I can't claim credit for the photos, I have no idea who the model is or what the pictures were for. :iconjaydeefaire: pointed them out to me when she spied an amazing resemblance between the model and a certain character of mine. I realize it may teeter on copyright infringement to use photos that I haven't taken myself, but this free journal skin action is only supposed to last until the 29th, so it'll be gone before you know it.

I'm terrible at keeping an active journal here. Or even semi-active. Rest assured though, I'm still around and I always read every comment I get. I may not always reply unless someone asks me a specific question or if I really want to address something. But I appreciate all the comments and faves I get all the same. :)

The next page of the TT comic is on its way, for those of you waiting impatiently. The next page starts a series of pages that have been great fun for me to write and draw. Hopefully they'll be fun to read as well. I know I update the comic very sporadically, but please be patient. It's still squeaking along, I just never intended it to be updated very frequently like on a weekly or even monthly basis. It's more of a side project for me that I work on when I'm not working on commissions or one of my other projects. It's nice to see there's still a loyal group of watchers out there eagerly awaiting each new installment.

Commissions are still open. For how long remains to be seen. If you're interested or know someone who might be, feel free to take a look at my pricing and other info.

Hey so I has a question. Lol, I've been fallowing all your comics and really like how you set up the pages. Do you actually have a reason to your rhyem or do you just throw squares where ever. I love drawing comics in my spare time but setting up the pages is damn near impossible for me. Any tips would be so loved! Thanks, stainedsatin
:iconjesskat83:
I don't just randomly throw in panels on the page and see what happens if that's what you mean. I don't spend too much time thinking about just the right panel combinations either, but I do always plan a little bit ahead. I usually have the scene all ready to go in my head, but once I start thinking about laying it down on paper, I realize it's going to end up too long or too short for one page. So sometimes I may end up drawing five panels instead of the originally planned four or simply resizing the existing panels to make them fit better on the page.

I always create small thumbnail versions of the pages for myself before I set to work, like a miniature version of what I intend to do. That way it's easy to have an overview of what exactly I have planned. Sometimes it becomes clear in the thumbnails that the current page layout would look more dynamic if I changed the shape of one panel from a typical square to a more unusual shape. Or that it would draw out the tension more if I decided to move half of the panels onto a new page instead of cramming all the action in one. Stuff like that.
